Snow Routes

Snow Route A
We have two alternate “snow” routes to use during deep snow years. If we can’t get into Lyon Ridge and Red Star Ridge aid stations but are still able to access Robinson Flat (like in 2010) we’ll use what we call Snow Route A. This drops down into the French Meadows drainage at the Hodgsdon Gate prior to the Lyon Ridge aid station. By dropping down into French Meadows we are able to get to relatively lower elevation terrain and access the snow route aid stations Talbot and Poppy from Mosquito Ridge Rd. This is actually the original/historic WS route. Once we reach the Duncan Canyon aid station we are back on the regular route through Robinson Flat.

Snow route B
In years like 2011 where we can’t access the Robinson Flat aid station we’ll use what we call Snow Route B. This drops down to French Meadows and through the snow route aid stations Talbot and Poppy. Unlike Snow Route A when we reach Duncan Canyon aid station we do not drop into Duncan Canyon, but instead head down to N43 to the snow route aid station Mosquito Ridge via the upper and lower Glen Mine sections. After a short out and back up towards Little Bald Mtn using the Ed Moore Glen Mine bypass, we rejoin the regular route at Millers Defeat aid station.
